Understanding Your Sexual Desires

As guys, we naturally experience a sexual drive and a desire for a sexual release every couple of days—usually every second or third day. Because of this, sexual fantasies, masturbation, daydreaming about sex, or even watching pornography can feel hard to resist, because we tend to fall into a habit of wanting that kind of excitement and pleasure more frequently than our normal sexual drive.

But here’s something important to remember:

Your sexual drive and desire for intimacy are not bad or shameful.

God designed them, blessed them, and sees your body as good.

Genesis 1:26-28

It’s totally normal to be curious about how your body works, including your sexual drive and even masturbation. But what really matters is getting solid, truthful, and biblical guidance about manhood. Learning about your body and how it functions helps you make smart, well-informed choices.

You need to be in control of your sexual desires and acting out on them—because if you don’t control them, they will control you.

If your dad never talked to you about sexual development, never confirmed your identity as a man, or never told you that you’re okay, it can be tough to feel good about your sexuality and the desire to engage in it. You might feel confused or even ashamed, but you are not alone in this struggle.

If you're wrestling with this stuff, try talking to your parents. They were once teenagers too and probably had similar struggles. If that’s not an option for you, look for a trusted, godly mentor or counselor—someone who can guide you in a healthy way. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you find the right person.

Why It Matters

Masturbation and pornography can mess with your ability to have real-life, meaningful relationships. They can make it harder to connect with people in a pure and healthy way—especially with friends of the opposite sex. When you learn to handle your sexual desires the right way, you open the door to stronger friendships, deeper relationships, and a life that honours the way God made you.
